Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray

GM revealed the Chevy Corvette E-Ray, the first hybrid Corvette in history

70 years ago, Chevrolet unveiled the original concept car of the COrvette at the Motorama auto show in New York City. Now, after 8 generations, and on the 70th anniversary of the Corvette, Chevrolet released the Chevy Corvette E-Ray, the fastest Corvette to date. The E-Ray uses a V8 powertrain to drive the rear wheels and electric motors to power the front wheels, not only keeping the systems separate but also making the car the first Corvette that’s all-wheel drive.

With the E-Ray’s 655 combined HP, the car accelerates from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and finishes a quarter mile in 10.5 seconds. Like most electric cars, this fast acceleration is due to the electric motor, which accounts for 160 of the 655 HP and produces 125 pound-feet of torque.

The name, E-ray, is based on the electric ray, a sea creature capable of producing massive amounts of electricity to stun its prey, like the E-ray’s surprise speed will surprise competitors on the drag strip. The name is also a play on the base model’s name, the Stingray. The car will also have a specially designed ray shape badge on the trunk’s lid.

The hybrid supercar starts at $104,295, with the option to buy a convertible version for $111,295. The Corvette is one of the eight new/redesigned models for Chevrolet in 2023. The eight include all-electric versions of the Silverado, a crossover between the Equinox and Blazer, and a new Colorado and Trax.
