The Ford Ranger Tactical

Ford released its first hybrid Ford Ranger, and it runs on jetfuel.

The use of trucks in warfare has always been key, and Ford’s Global Fleet Sales division just released its next FG-P, and it’s astounding. Unlike a lot of combat-designed trucks, the Ranger wasn’t made for direct combat — it’s designed for stealth and surveillance. The truck comes with a “blackout” mode, making it as discreet as possible.

The silence is due to the electric motor on the driveline, making it the first Ranger hybrid. Unlike most hybrids, though, where the motor and engine work together, the Ranger has two entirely different systems, and the driver can only switch between them when the car is stopped. The electric motor is only meant for short ranges, driving at 12.5 mph for 1.25-17.75 miles. With the electric motor active, the truck is silent and produces no heat signature.. If needed, Ford claims the engine can be quickly restarted.

To accompany the silence of the electric motor, the truck comes with a “Black Out” mode that turns off all sounds and lights. The mode is engaged by toggling a series of switches, disengaging the light sources, and turning off sounds. However, power steering, ABS, stability control, and airbags remain active.

The car not only comes with basic headlights, but it comes with 360-degree flood lights, convoy lights, and an infrared system. Additionally, the improved suspension system allows the truck to carry 7,716 pounds. The truck now has military tires, military suspension, and military shocks.

The most impressive thing, though, is that it runs on jet fuel. Normally, you can’t just pour jet fuel into a diesel-powered ranger because it will break the engine. However, Ford’s designed the engine to not only run on jet fuel, but it can run on a wide variety of fuels in a wide variety of temperatures.
