Ford Supervan 4 EV

The Ford Supervan 4 EV debuted at the Goodwood FOS with nearly 2000 horsepower

The Ford Transit Supervans are a series of vehicles made by Ford UK that combine the outline of a Ford Transit with the chassis and performance of a sports car.

History

The car was first presented at the Easter 1971 meeting at Brands Hatch. The car took the chassis and mid-engine 400 bhp Ford v8 from the GT40 and the body from a standard Mark 1 Transit. Built for Ford by Terry Drury Racing, the car claimed a top speed of 150 mph. In 1978, the Transit was redesigned as the Mark 2 with a completely different appearance.

Then, in 1984, a new Supervan was created, called Supervan 2. The body was a fiberglass replica of the Mark 2 Transit, with small changes like a rear spoiler. The chassis was from a Ford C100 Group C car and the engine was a Cosworth DFL. This car was built by Auto Racing Technology and the car debuted at Donington Park for the first British truck racing Grand Prix. During the tests, it was timed at 174 mph. However, soon, just over a year later, the Mark 3 Transit was released making the Supervan 2 outdated.

This led to the creation of the Supervan 3 in 1994. Unlike its predecessors, this was made toward the start of the Mark 3 and was used for the promotion of the Mark 3. The car was a 7/8 replica of the Mark 3 and had a new engine, the Cosworth HB. This car was made by the DRL Engineering of Suffolk. This car had the longest promotional lifespan, appearing several times until 2001.

Then, after many years, at the 2022 Goodwood FOS, the Ford Pro Electric Supervan was introduced. This was the first all-electric Ford SuperVan and achieves the highest performance of any Ford Van. IT has four electric motors, a 50kWh liquid-cooled battery, and a bespoke control system that produces approximately 2,000 PS, or about 1,972 horsepower. This gives the car the ability to go 0-62 mph in under 2 seconds. The Supervan contains parts from the Ford Transit Custom, the first fully electric version of the Ford Transit.
